Posture Correction

Your local Chatswood chiropractor can help correct your posture, serving Sydney's Lower North Shore.

Postural imbalances build up slowly. Long days at a desk, time on the phone and old injuries gradually pull the body out of alignment, until slouching or a forward head position starts to feel normal. Left unaddressed, poor posture places ongoing strain on the spine and surrounding muscles.

At Body Therapy Chiropractic we assess how you sit, stand and move, then work to restore healthier alignment so your body can support itself with less effort and less pain.

What kind of postural problems can chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care can help with a range of postural issues that affect the spine and the way you carry yourself, including:

  • Loss of the spine's normal curvature in the neck, mid and lower back
  • Forward head posture from screen and phone use
  • Rounded upper back (kyphosis)
  • Uneven pelvis or hips
  • Postural changes related to scoliosis

What causes poor posture?

Poor posture is most often driven by muscle imbalances — some muscles become tight and overworked while their opposing muscles weaken. Prolonged desk work is a common culprit, encouraging the shoulders to round forward and the head to drift in front of the body.

Correcting posture is rarely about simply "sitting up straight." It involves releasing the overactive muscles, strengthening the underactive ones and restoring movement to the joints so a healthier position can hold over time.

How we help

Your care starts with a thorough assessment of your posture, movement and history. From there we build a personalised plan that may combine chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue work and tailored exercises you can do between visits.

We take the time to explain what we find and why, so you understand the cause of the problem and leave with practical advice for keeping your posture on track.

Can posture really be corrected as an adult?

Yes. While posture takes time to change, the muscles and joints remain adaptable throughout adult life. With consistent care and the right exercises, most people see meaningful, lasting improvement.

How long does it take to see results?

It varies with the individual and how long the pattern has been present, but many patients notice they feel more comfortable and aware of their posture within the first few weeks of care.

Will I need to keep doing exercises at home?

Home exercises are an important part of lasting change. We'll give you a small, manageable set tailored to you, and adjust them as your posture improves.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us as a new patient. If you have a care plan or referral from your GP, bring it along and we'll work in with it.

What happens during my first visit?

Your initial consultation includes a thorough history, a physical assessment and, where appropriate, your first treatment. We'll explain what we find and agree on a plan together before any care begins.

Do you offer health fund rebates and HICAPS?

Yes. We accept all major health funds and have HICAPS on site, so eligible patients can claim their rebate on the spot and only pay the gap.
