What can trigger migraines and headaches?

A number of everyday factors can cause pressure and irritation of the nerves around the spine and neck:

  • Previous injury or trauma
  • Repetitive movements
  • Stress
  • Poor posture
  • Poor ergonomics
  • Sustained, repetitive postures

How chiropractic helps

When these nerves are irritated, the surrounding muscles tighten as a form of protection, and that tightness can lead directly to acute headaches and migraines. Chiropractic care has been used to successfully treat headaches and migraines for decades.

An initial assessment begins with a thorough evaluation to eliminate any possible alternative causes and to examine your spine for misalignment. Using gentle, non-invasive techniques, James Zheng (Chiropractor) performs adjustments that can provide almost instant relief while addressing the root cause — unlike pain medication, which only offers short-term relief.

Your treatment plan is personally tailored to you, with a caring, hands-on approach focused on reducing pain, improving movement and supporting lasting overall health.

What's the difference between a headache and a migraine?

Migraines are typically more intense and can come with symptoms like nausea, visual disturbances and sensitivity to light and sound, whereas tension headaches are usually a duller, pressing pain. Both can be linked to tension and irritation around the neck and spine, which chiropractic care addresses.

Can chiropractic care really reduce my migraines?

For many people, yes. When migraines are driven by restricted neck joints, nerve irritation or muscular tension, addressing those causes can reduce how often and how severely they occur. We assess first to confirm chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

Will I need ongoing treatment?

It depends on your triggers and how long the pattern has been present. Many patients move from an initial relief phase to occasional maintenance visits, supported by posture and lifestyle advice to keep migraines at bay.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us as a new patient. If you have a care plan or referral from your GP, bring it along and we'll work in with it.

What happens during my first visit?

Your initial consultation includes a thorough history, a physical assessment and, where appropriate, your first treatment. We'll explain what we find and agree on a plan together before any care begins.

Do you offer health fund rebates and HICAPS?

Yes. We accept all major health funds and have HICAPS on site, so eligible patients can claim their rebate on the spot and only pay the gap.
