Chiropractic care for arthritis and joint stiffness in Chatswood

Understanding arthritis

Arthritis encompasses a group of over 100 different joint disorders, with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis being the most common. Symptoms include joint pain, swelling, stiffness and a decreased range of motion. Managing arthritis involves a comprehensive approach that addresses both the symptoms and the underlying causes.

The chiropractic approach to arthritis

Chiropractors focus on the musculoskeletal system and the spine's relationship with the nervous system. While we don't claim to cure arthritis, chiropractic care can offer valuable support in managing symptoms and improving joint function:

  • Spinal adjustments — correcting misalignments that may contribute to joint stress and inflammation, helping to relieve pressure on affected joints and improve function.
  • Joint mobilisation — gentle techniques to improve the range of motion in affected joints, maintaining flexibility and reducing stiffness.
  • Soft tissue therapy — massage, myofascial release and stretching to ease muscle tension, promote circulation and reduce pain.
  • Therapeutic exercise — specific exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting the affected joints and reduce stress on them.
  • Lifestyle and nutritional guidance — advice on lifestyle and dietary choices that support joint health, including anti-inflammatory approaches.

The benefits of chiropractic care for arthritis

Chiropractic care provides a non-invasive, drug-free approach that minimises the need for medications with potential side effects. It takes a holistic view of your wellbeing and, by addressing spinal misalignments and supporting overall musculoskeletal health, can contribute to improved joint function and mobility.

If you're navigating the challenges of arthritis, consult with James Zheng or Gianna Lau at Body Therapy Chiropractic to discuss your symptoms, receive a comprehensive assessment and explore the benefits of a natural, holistic approach to relief.

Can chiropractic care cure my arthritis?

No — there's no cure for arthritis, and we won't claim otherwise. What chiropractic care can do is help manage your symptoms, improve joint movement and reduce stiffness, supporting a better quality of life.

Is chiropractic treatment safe if I have arthritis?

When tailored appropriately, yes. We assess your condition carefully and use gentle techniques suited to arthritic joints, focusing on comfortable, low-force methods and adjusting our approach to you.

What else can I do to manage my arthritis?

Alongside treatment we offer guidance on exercise, lifestyle and anti-inflammatory dietary choices that support joint health, so you have practical tools to manage your symptoms between visits.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us as a new patient. If you have a care plan or referral from your GP, bring it along and we'll work in with it.

What happens during my first visit?

Your initial consultation includes a thorough history, a physical assessment and, where appropriate, your first treatment. We'll explain what we find and agree on a plan together before any care begins.

Do you offer health fund rebates and HICAPS?

Yes. We accept all major health funds and have HICAPS on site, so eligible patients can claim their rebate on the spot and only pay the gap.
